A Lesson from Sparrows

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 18, 2024

Today’s Text: Matthew 10:26-33

Key Verse: Matthew 10:29 (ESV): "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father."

We gave heard how our Lord uses parables or short allegorical stories to illustrate and simplify deep spiritual lessons across the gospels. We have learnt many things about the kingdom of God and our spiritual lives when He uses natural things that we know to teach us spiritual things that we don't know. Today's generation certainly needs to sit in a discipleship class and learn from the Sparrow. First, we need to learn how cheap they are. Then probably we'd learn that if God so watches over them (sparrows), how much more does He care for us, His beloved children, whom He made in His image?

Today’s text is a reminder that God's care and attention to details of our lives are remarkable. We are valuable and precious in His sight, and He is intimately involved in our lives. Just as no sparrow falls to the ground without God knowing about it; so does He care about us. God numbers the hairs on our head, He is aware of every detail, concern, and need we have. We can trust in His love and care, finding comfort and courage in His presence.

As a great teacher, Jesus used the Analogy of sparrows to help us as His students to develop a deeper understanding of our lives' complex situations, making learning personal, engaging and relatable. He wants us to know that the same way no sparrow falls to the ground outside of God's care, we are valued. Therefore, if God cares for the seemingly insignificant sparrow, He will certainly care for us, who are valued much more highly in His sight. Therefore, why not take a break from that worry and anxiety. Why not observe the small details around you and see God's care and provision in every aspect of your life and world.

Quote for the Day: "How amazing it is to think that the God who holds the whole world in His hands holds you in His hands both in this world and in the world to come." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for reminding us of Your loving care and attention to detail. Help us to trust in Your goodness and provision, just as the sparrows do. May we find comfort in Your presence and peace in Your love — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
