A Living Hope

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Monday, May 27, 2019

Today’s Text: 1 Peter 1:3-9

Key Verse: 1 Peter 1:8 (ESV): Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.

In a most paradoxical way, we are all called into a personal love for the Lord, whom we have never met; believes Him, whom we cannot see, and hope for an eternity with Him. Yes, a personal experience of hope because God deals and reveals Himself to us individually. That’s why Peter does not include himself among those who loved the Christ whom they had never seen. He has a different personal experience: He had believed because he had seen the Savior. But he understands that, by the believers living hope, it does not mean that he and his fellows, who had been Christ's companions, love him “more than these” who have not seen Him, yet love, believe and rejoice in Him.

You may, therefore, test yourself to see if yours is a genuine and living personal hope by asking these questions: Do you love Him? Do you trust him? Wherein is your sense of happiness—in things or in His inexpressible glorious joy?

Quote for the Day: “Ours is the joy of a personal benediction, which Christ, Himself, pronounced on those who have not seen Him, and yet have believed.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me hold up my lively hope in you even if there were a thousand obstacles to try and trip me up, tragedy to tempt me to lose heart, and discouragement to threaten to undo my faith. Help me to trust in you regardless, draws near to Christ relentlessly and with joy unspeakable, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
