Today’s Text: Hebrews 12:1-3
Key Verses: Hebrews 12:2 (ESV): “Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
While struggling with personal issues amid growing complex psychosocial stressors of our age can really make us lose our spiritual footing. That is why we are so easily jolted into loss of focus on the Lord and his promises for us. We focus on distracting things and pay our attention on people rather than fix our eyes on the Lord Jesus with whom we have to do. We so easily forget that that powerful image we have set up in our minds and is forming a personal idol is made of a dust, and dusts typically sooner or later fail, fall, fade and falter.
In order not to be seriously disappointed, the writer of Hebrews admonishes us to redirect our total attention on Jesus so that those other objects before our faces that so easily buffet our natural and spiritual strengths can all fade away. O how desperately we look around on our companions, neighbors, colleagues, families, and negative situations — all which do no good than stand in the way of faith. That is why we fail and are disappointed. As many of us as find ourselves dragged down by those gaze upon negative stereotypes of life. It is that time to get our eyes off those limiting things; off those pain, problems, projects and people; and set our eyes on Jesus Christ, the founder and perfecter of our faith.
Quote for the Day: “Looking at Jesus, we see Him beginning the course of our faith, and we see him see to it that it is finished.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, today, I set my eyes on You because You are the Author and the Finisher of my faith. I give up my struggles, strength and weaknesses to You so that You can take hold of my hands and lead me through a new direction — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
