Today’s Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, June 5, 2019
Today’s Text: Romans 8:1-17
Key Verses: Romans 8:7 (ESV): “For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.”
There’s an intuitive nature of control in everyone. Watch a child carefully, and you will see how much s/he craves to be in control. Under the curse of our Adamic nature, this draws us away from God, and tears us apart from his leading. But under the grace of Jesus, we are given a new spirit, which gives us a new desire to be melted, broken and led by God.
The Holy Spirit‘s influence in us is silent but powerful—invisible, yet tangible. Today’s meditation may be understood when the Spirit’s influence is seen in the light of the subtle force of a magnet. If you place a wooden barrier before the magnet, the intended influence is made impossible. That’s how a mind set on the flesh disallows the Spirit’s influence. But the mind that takes away the wooden heart of self-will and submits to God is magnetized to a new control. Like in a magnet, no outward difference is perceptible in the magnetized bar, but the particles have assumed a new uniformity and direction with its influencer. There is a newly acquired magnetic property. That’s how the Holy Spirit imparts a new tendency, a new nature in us, and change our old nature, and set it in submission to God’s law.
Quote for the Day: “Other forms of influence impose outward effects, but the Holy Spirit helps us live from inside.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your Holy Spirit, who brings peace in the midst of storms, and encourages, comforts and leads me. Help me to submit myself to the influence of your Spirit, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,

God is in control to the extent we allow Him in our lives.
