Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, May 6, 2024
Today’s Text: Exodus 25:8-9, 40:34-38
Key Verse: Exodus 25:8 (NIV): "Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them."
God is bringing a biblical passage, that many have abandoned or ignored, before us today. It is an offshoot of God's instructions for building the tabernacle, where He would dwell among His people. The story highlights how God's desire for closeness and communion with His people started, and has continued till this very day.
After all the acceptable gifts have been specified, and the spirit in which they are to be offered noted, God unfolds purpose of the required offerings. He wants to have an habitation in which He may "dwell" among them. God always desires to dwell among His people. His presence with us is more importance than life itself, and must never be mistaken for a sacred space of worship, or gift.
Israel's building of the tabernacle according to God's instructions is a spiritual type that foreshadows how we are to create a sacred space in our hearts and lives for God to dwell in. This is not about religious activities, prayer, meditation, and worship; but a lifestyle of dedication to God's presence. This calls for setting our lives aside a God's offering of worship each day, always seeking to connect with God. This is our new covenant and modern-day "tabernacle."
Just as God dwelled among the Israelites in the tabernacle, He desires to dwell among us today. Are you willing to create a space in your life for His presence? Would you prepare yourself a living sanctuary for God today? When we were preparing for the month of May, God already spoke to us as a church that it would be our month of walking in His love: and so may we all be aware of His abiding presence, not just this month, but in all the days of our lives.
Quote for the Day: "Just as God is not a thing, He's a person; His presence is not just a feeling, it's a fact. And He is always with us, even when we don't sense Him." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for desiring to dwell among Your people. Help me create a sacred space in my heart and life for Your presence. May I be aware of Your abiding presence and guidance in my daily life — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
