A Strong Consolation

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, January 15, 2024

Today’s Text: Hebrews 6:13-20

Key Verse: Hebrews 6:18 (KJV): “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.”

Today’s circumstances and worries mount so hard upon us. They toss us about and depress us ruthlessly. But we have a beautiful promise from today’s text which moves us to cast our anchor of hope unto Jesus and rest our faith that His promises are true. This text affirms that not only is He powerful enough to calm our storms and keep you safe; but He is faithful enough.

All our howling, frigid winds that whip and beat upon us mercilessly and almost always deprive us of sleep; all the ferocious psychosocial, emotional and spiritual storms raging fiercely and buffeting our future; all the threats of cancer, COVID-19; piling bills and fast moving pace of our schedules toss us back and forth and threaten our hope for the future. Perhaps our heart cry are similar to that of our Lord’s disciples when a windstorm suddenly came upon their boat and water filled it up. But Jesus is continually present with us to calm the raging storm. This text tells us how "... we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul because God has given both his promise and his oath—which are two unchangeable things because it is impossible for God to lie. So that we who run to him for refuge can have great consolation even as we hold to the hope that lies before us. The storms will still rage, and the winds will not stop blowing. But the presence, promises and faithfulness of Christ in the midst of it all, leads us to hope, and that's the secret to riding out any storm of/in life.

Quote for the Day: “All heirs of God’s promise are known and marked by their confidence and consolation in the divine promises.” — Simon Olatunji

Prayer: Dear Lord and Father, please help keep my eyes on You in the middle of life’s strongest storms. Increase my faith in You, so that I might grow in strong consolation in eternal things and walk my hope till the very end— in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
