Today’s Text: James 1:1-11
Key Verse: James 1:5 (ESV): "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him."
Imagine you're on a hike in the wilderness, and you come to a fork in the trail. You pull out your map, but it's not enough to just look at the map - you also need a compass to guide you in the right direction. The map represents knowledge, but the compass represents wisdom - the ability to apply that knowledge in the right way.
Just like the map and compass, we need both knowledge and wisdom to navigate life's challenges. We can have all the knowledge in the world, but without wisdom, we may make the wrong decisions. And just as the compass is calibrated to true north, our wisdom must be calibrated to God's truth.
In James 1:5, we're told to ask God for wisdom, and He will give it to us generously. When we seek God's wisdom, we can trust that He will guide us in the right direction, just like the compass guides us on the trail.
As we seek to apply God's wisdom in our lives, may we remember that it's not just about knowing what to do, but also having the courage to do it. May we be like the Psalmist, who wrote, "Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path" (Psalm 27:11).
Wisdom is not just knowledge, but the application of that knowledge in our lives. James 1:5 reminds us, 'If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.' As we seek wisdom from God, may we also have the courage to apply it to our thoughts, words, and actions.
Quote for the Day: "Wisdom is not just knowing what to do, but also having the courage to do it." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I ask for wisdom from you today. Help me to see things from your perspective and to make decisions that align with your will. Give me the courage to apply your wisdom in my life, and may I be a reflection of your love and grace to others — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
