A Worthy Legacy

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, July 19, 2024

Today’s Text:  2 Timothy 1:1-7

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 1:5 (NIV): "I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also."

Today again, we are meditating on the same Pauline letter to Timothy. Today's focus is upon his concluding thoughts to this letter to that young pastor, with greetings and a benediction. He emphasizes the importance of grace in the lives of believers. But he reminds us of two noble women, Lois and Eunice, who exemplified faith and wisdom in their lives to influence their children, Timothy and others, so much that they grew up to serve the Lord with diligence and passion. These women's devotion to God and their families has borne fruit in the next generation, and their legacy continues to inspire us today. This epistle begins on a note to spur us to follow their example and raise our own children too to love and obey the Lord with all their hearts.

Lois and Eunice exemplified sincere faith so that the apostle was persuaded that it (the faith) now lives in you (Timothy) also. This verse is not about the apostolic beautiful tribute to the faith of Lois and Eunice, Timothy's grandmother and mother, but about the significant role it played in passing on their faith to Timothy. It is therefore important that Timothy must continue in that faith and also seek to pass the same down through his family. Like Timothy, we must continue in what we have learned and have become convinced of, because we know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy we have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (Paraphrased)

Let us continue in the faith and pass it on to the next generation. It is rare today, though, but, we dtill have some Lois's and Eunice's of God out there, in various places, serving the Lord and raising the next generation of believers. They are in homes as mothers and grandmothers who are deliberate in passing on their faith to their children and grandchildren, just like Lois and Eunice did with Timothy.

And they are in churches as ministries, Sunday school teachers, and children's ministry leaders, etc. What a great thing 5o know that God still has faithful men and women, in various places, who are serving in various places. Now, the question is: are you one of them? t question!

Quote for the Day: "Never let the light of the gospel fade in your hand, lest you confine the generations in which your own very seeds will thrive into thick and palpable darkness." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the reminder of the importance of passing on our faith to others. Help us to rely on your grace in our daily lives and to cultivate meaningful relationships with other believers. May your grace be with us all — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji,
