Today's Text: 1 Corinthians 4:1-5

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 4:2 (ESV): "Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful."

Faithfulness is a vital virtue in the Christian life. It involves being reliable, trustworthy, and committed to one's responsibilities and relationships. While faithfulness seems to have been eroded in today's world, it still remains even more important than ever in the mind and system of God. The reason is: God is a faithful God, and values faithfulness. In today's text, the apostle Paul writes that it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. God wants us to succeed but requires us to be faithful in all aspects of our lives. In the grand scheme of life, while achievement and success are desirable outcomes, faithfulness stands out as the most important virtue. People may rever success and recognize achievements but they are fleeting or can be fleeting. Faithfulness, on the other hand, is a character trait that endures and brings lasting rewards. It is the foundation upon which true achievement and success are built, and it is the quality that God values most.

Faithfulness builds trust in any given relationship. When we are faithful, we build trust with others. This is essential in our relationships, whether personal or professional. The same is true in our relationship with God. Faithfulness attracts God's blessings. In Psalm 37:3-6, we are promised that if we trust in the Lord and do good, He will give us the desires of our heart. This is because faithfulness is a key part of trusting in the Lord. As followers of Christ, we are called to be stewards of the Gospel: people who manage the affairs of God's kingdom assignment on earth. We are entrusted with the responsibility of sharing the message of salvation with others. The apostle Paul writes that faithfulness is required to be good stewards of this manifold grace.

We must be careful not to focus on seeking the praise of others, but on being faithful to the One who has entrusted us with the Gospel. Helen Hayes once said that her mother drew a distinction between achievement and success. Her mother advised her that "achievement is the knowledge that you have studied and worked hard and done the best that is in you. Success is being praised by others, and that's nice too, but not as important or satisfying. Always aim for achievement and forget about success. As stewards of the Gospel, our aim should be to achieve faithfulness, not success. We should strive to be faithful to the Gospel, even when it's difficult or unpopular. We should aim to please God, not men.

Action Steps: Ask God to help you be faithful to the Gospel. Focus on achieving faithfulness, not success. Strive to please God, not men. Share the Gospel with others, even when it's difficult or unpopular. Surround yourself with supportive fellow believers who can encourage and strengthen you.

Quote for the Day: "Faithfulness is not about seeking the praise of others, but about being faithful to the One who has entrusted us with the Gospel." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today, asking for the strength and courage to be faithful to the Gospel. Help me to focus on achieving faithfulness, not success. Give me opportunities to share the Gospel with others, even when it's difficult or unpopular. Surround me with supportive fellow believers who can encourage and strengthen me — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
