Today’s Scripture Threshing for Friday, May 10, 2019
Today’s Text: Psalm 50:7-16
Key Verse: Psalm 50:10 (ESV): “For every beast of the forest is mine, even the cattle on a thousand hills.”
A farmer who told his pastor-friend that his land and crops belong to God was later found modifying his confession when the farm yielded so much. “The land ad the trees are God’s, but the fruits are His blessings to me.” He said. Well, before you blame him, make sure he is not a reflection of your hypocritical lifestyle. It may be, especially if you ever think you really own anything in this world. If you do, you are absolutely mistaken. Because the Bible says that God owns it all.
Today’s text was written in a time when economy was based on agriculture, and animals such as cows, goats and sheep were considered units of wealth. God does not just claim exclusive ownership of everything in this world, including the Earth itself and all of the creatures that live in it; but He truly owns it all because He created all things including all the world’s wealth.
Therefore, we should never be reluctant to serve Him with a tenth of our material blessing; no, not even if He asks for all. I have found in my personal experience and home that God’s blessings help the nine-tenths go farther, achieve and mean much more than the ten-tenths without His blessing.
Quote for the Day: “The thought that God owns everything is always a reflection of submission, a demonstration of true worship. It always certainly affects the way we handle material possession, and the whole of life itself.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to love you with all I have, and with all my heart, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
