Always Use Your Heart

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, June 12, 2019

Today’s Text: Ecclesiastes 9:7-10

Key Verses: Ecclesiastes 9:10 (ESV): “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.

An elderly carpenter told his employer of his plans to retire and live a more leisurely life with his family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. His employer being sorry to see his good worker go, asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work—an unfortunate way to end a good career—resorting to shoddy workmanship and using inferior materials, so that I n no time, he finished the work.

Upon inspection, the employer handed the keys to him. "This is your house, my gift to you." He said. It was a shock and shame! Had he known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built with a false heart, wrong head, and weak hands. So it is with us. We build our lives in so many distracted ways. We mostly react rather than act. We put up less than our best, not applying our hearts. But we often live the life we create for/by ourselves. We may see through today’s text how we may think of ourselves as carpenters, and apply our hearts to our hammer. Our lives tomorrow will be the result of our attitudes and the choices we make today.

Quote for the Day: “When it comes to building life; our head, heart and hands are connected to our hammer. That is why whatever we have opportunity and ability to exert, in the duties of our calling, for God’s glory or man’s good, we must do it with head, heart and hands.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the assignment you allot me in Your mercies. Please help me Lord, to be sober in the employment of my heart, in godly fear, as I commit daily to an industrious prosecution of every matter of my calling, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
