Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, November 4, 2024
Today’s Text: John 16:19-28
Key Verse: John 16:26 (NIV): "In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf."
Prayer is often misunderstood as merely seeking answers from God. This is not supposed to be the case. Yes, we ask, seek, and knock for answers; yet the truest purpose of prayer is to experience complete unity with Him. It (prayer) is identification with Christ, and becoming one with Him, sharing His thoughts and desires for the kingdom. Yes, prayer is supposed to deepen our relationship with God, making us live trophies of His grace.
God does not always answer prayers the ways we desire Him to; but regardless, He always provides us with different opportunities for spiritual growth. Imagine a devoted Christian woman who prays fervently for her mother's healing. Despite initial silence, she persisted, seeking intimacy with God. Through this experience, she discovered her own fears and doubts. Her faith deepens, and she surrenders to God's will. Her mother's healing eventually came, but more importantly, her relationship with God transforms for better.
Prayer is not about getting answers but about unity with God. Unanswered prayers offer personal opportunities for growth and intimacy with God. This, to us, should be the ultimate answer to prayer. Why not reflect on your prayer life today?! Are you just seeking answers from God or seeking relationships and spiritual growth? God wants us to begin to grow in the grace of trusting His silence and non action. He wants to give us a chance for spiritual growth. He wants our relationship with Him to be a reflection of our unity with Him rather than merely of the answered prayers we have received.
As you grow in the grace of prayer, deepen your intimacy with God and let Him transform your life. That's why Job could say in chapter 13 verse 15 that even though He slays me, yet will I trust in Him. In the midst of adversity, suffering, and uncertainty, we should be able to declare unwavering trust, unshakeable faith, surrender, and hope in God's goodness. What are our key takeaways and reflections on this? Trusting God is not conditioned by circumstances or reward. Genuine faith is refined in trials. In spite of adversity, God's goodness is unwavering.
Action Steps: Declare your trust in God amidst challenges. Learn the path of patience in prayers and total surrender to God’s sovereignty. Find hope in His goodness even when things don't go the way you expect.
Quote for the Day: "Faith in God is not about what He does for us but about what He is to us." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote).
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please teach me to put my trust in You and to keep it unbroken. I need Your strength during trials and Your goodness to shine through in my struggles. Please deepen my trust in You, Lord, and grant me strength in trials — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
