Are We Reaping What We Sow?

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Wednesday, April 9, 2025

Today's Text: Galatians 6:6-10

Key Verse: Galatians 6:7 (ESV): "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap."

The Apostle Paul was concluding his letter to the Galatian churches, which was written to address the issue of Judaizers whose teachings hindered Gentile converts from full acceptance ad believers except they observed Jewish practices. The apostle counters their teaching by emphasizing the importance of living a life guided by the Spirit, rather than relying on human works or rituals. This will allow the Galatian churches which were composed of Gentile converts who had been influenced by Judaizers to be free from confusion and division.

Who were the Judaizers? They were convert Jews who refused to let their new life in Christ Jesus to reform their old lifestyle and faith. They continued sow seeds that promotes stigma, division and discrimination against Gentile converts pertaining observance of Jewish law, including circumcision. They were a lot like many religious leaders of today who are not fully regenerated but are hoping their ministries would produce results of faith, love and changed lives.

Paul wriates to counter this error and emphasize the importance of a life guided by the Spirit rather than relying on human works or rituals. If your life is based on deception and manipulation, it cannot but produce the same fruits among those who hear and follow you. The law of sowing and reaping is a universal principle that governs what we get when we are one way or the other. The consequences of sin or sowing to the flesh will always result in corruption, and the result of sowing to the Spirit will bear the fruits of genuine life in the spirit.

So, place the unwise, deceived and corrupt Galatian churches side by side today's church, then nay be you'd understand why our generation has so much to reap on the side of sensuality, sexuality, and materialism. Of course, every generation has materialistic people in it. But see how ours tend to focus more on material things than any generation past: a church that can produce and promote lesbianism and expect corrupt politicians to help her deal with it. Are these not affirming Christ's prophecies of the last days?! As Christians, we are called to live a life that honors God, guided by the Spirit. Our choices have consequences, and we must be mindful of the seeds we sow. By sowing to the Spirit, we can reap eternal life and experience the blessings of God.

Action Steps: Reflect on your actions and decisions, and ask God to guide you in sowing to the Spirit. Seek to live a life that honors God, guided by the Spirit. Be mindful of the seeds you sow, and choose to sow to the Spirit. Trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, knowing that He is not mocked.

Quote for the Day: "The law of sowing and reaping is a universal principle that governs the universe. Whatever the church sows, we will all reap in our cities." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, we cannot pretend. Your word has found us out. We come before You today, seeking to live a life that honors You. Guide us in sowing to the Spirit, and help me to trust in Your sovereignty and goodness. Give us wisdom and discernment to make choices that align with Your will as we live out our faith suring these final and perilous days — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
