Today’s Text: Psalm 107:1-14
Key Verse: Psalm 107:13 (NKJV): “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses.”
The idea of false hopes in English is confident feelings about something that might not be true|. In biblical terms, if and when a man trusts in unreal things or unreality, he is said to be building his or her life on false hope. As a Nigerian American, I know how most Nigerians and Americans share similar traits in falsely anchoring of hope on politicians. They have continued to hope that every next political candidate would come and change things over or restore things to the right way as we suppose they should be. But we have always seen how putting our Hope in people and things have always left us disappointed.
Beloved, no man, and nothing, is strong enough to be an anchor for our souls. The people of Israel had God to be their anchor but chose to look away to other things and nations; so they went through different kinds of distresses: they walked the desert, suffered in chains of their sin and rebellion—chains they didn’t even know they had; they were caught in suffering from their own foolishness; and then caught in a storm. Until they cried out to the Lord in distress.
Friends, never wait till challenges and distress show you that you are not strong or good enough, or people and things we trust are sick and phony. There are no superhuman. Jobs fail; businesses shutdown, and finance and stocks fall—those are the kind of anchors I think we mistakenly put our hope in that will fail. Those are faulty grounds that will not hold in the storms of life, that will not satisfy in the deserts and that will not break chains in us.
But we can move from clinging to those things and make God the anchor by first crying out to Him. And, He will help us.
Quote for the Day: False hopes get a people trusting in something they are actually enslaved to, nit realizing they are in the midst of a storm that they have no power over.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before you seeking that You may protect me, and all those I love from being influenced by such evil distortions that keep us in false hopes. Keep us under Your secure and promised protection by Your grace. Teach us to trust in nothing but You O Lord — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
