Bad Times Don't Last

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, October 24, 2024

Today’s Text: Psalm 30:1-12

Key Verse: Psalm 30:5 (RSV): For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning."

Life's challenges can overwhelm us, but God's Word assures us that difficult seasons are temporary. Whatever represents weeping in our lives at the moment, or anything, situation or person that causes us to weep, right now, may only stay for the momemt. That moment is described as night. Yes, night was used to depict darkness and uncertainty. But fot us who trust in the Lord, rejoicing comes in the morning. Do not take this as a poetic theme. It is prophetic. The Lord, through the psalmist is bringing a clear contrast between night and morning: one being marked by tears, fears and uncertainty; and the other being marked by light, newness and joy.

This morning, God wants to remind us of something that constitute the sum of our existence — night and day, which are symbols of joy and sorrow. God wants us to know that while night is usually figuratively undesired by us; rest, hope and joy are invariably hidden within its vesture. The enemy only uses fear and grief to rob us of the things hidden by darkness. The weeping you are going through right now shall terminate in a midt brilliant dawn of joy.

Romans 8:28 tells us, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him." "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all" (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). Whatever difficulties you are going through in your life. It is temporary. God is working things out for your good. He will turn struggles around into opportunities for you. And, the same is ultimately true about our journey through life to our eternal abode. Our earthly troubles are temporary. They yield eternal glory.

Action Steps: Trust God's sovereignty in your present situation. Focus on His promises and eternal hope. Leave struggles on the altar of prayer. Strengthen yourself by this and other Scriptures daily.

Quote for the Day: "Darkness veils but light prevails. The earlier fades and the latter remains." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote).

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for this precious reminder that in difficult times, your goodness is unwavering; and that my season of trials will not last. Please let this Scripture comfort me in difficult times. Remind me of Your goodness and give me renewed strength and hope — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
