Today’s Text: Psalm 100:1-5
Key Verse: Psalm 100:4 (ESV): "Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!"
We have come to this year's 300th day in the Gregorian calendar; and a lot has happened in the past months, weeks and days, but we are still here, burdened only with one thing: loads of reasons to be thankful. Yes, we are indebted on thankfulness. It is a powerful attitude that transforms our relationship with God and others. Our key text reminds us to approach God's presence with gratitude, acknowledging His blessings and mercy. The entire Psalm 100 is known as the Psalm of thanksgiving or Jubilate Deo, Latin words for "shout to the Lord," a psalm traditionally known as authored by King David during his reign, especially at the dedication of the Temple.
Thankfulness is born out of grateful atitude. That attitude is called gratitude. It always shifts focus from our problems to God's provisions. The theme of the whole psalm is that, when approaching God, praise must precedes presence. There's nothing that prepares our hearts for worship like thankfulness. As we come to the place of worship today, the psalmist invited us to look back through days and years and recognize God's goodness and sovereignty. He admonishes us to start each day and worship with thanksgiving.
David carefully divided the 5 verses psslm into sections: 1.) Invitation us to praise — come into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. 2.) Reasons for praise — for the LORD is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves... 3.) Instruction to worship — enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name. And , 4.) A conclusion and blessing — for the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Friends, nothing fosters positive relationships, whether between us and God or other men, like gratitude. As you join others in worship today, what are the things you're thankful for? Are you willing to come testify before God and lift up someone's faith?
Action Steps: Start a gratitude journal to record daily blessings. Share your thankfulness with a friend or family member. Make gratitude and part of your daily life.
Quote for the Day: "Thankfulness is born out of grateful atitude that shifts focus from our problems to God's presence and provisions." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote).
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we enter Your gates and courts today with thankful hearts. We are grateful for Your love, mercy and blessings. We trust You to help us maintain an attitude of gratitude that reflect always in Your goodness in our lives — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
