Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, December 13, 2024
Today's Text: Isaiah 52:7 (ESV): How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
The story of Eric Liddell, a Scottish athlete and missionary, is a powerful illustration of how beautiful it is to bring good news to those who live in ignorance and under the dominion of darkness. Liddell's decision to forgo his chance at an Olympic medal rather than compromise his Christian values is a shining example and living witness to the importance of sharing the Good News with others. He went to serve as a missionary, like his parents, from 1925 to 1943 – in an extremely poor area of China that had suffered during the country's civil wars and had become a particularly treacherous battleground with the invading Japanese.
Liddell's life found its brightest beauty in keeping with the prophet Isaiah vision of and/or about the beauty of those who bring good news to the mountains. Eric's story and this passage are a powerful reminder of the importance of evangelism and sharing the Gospel with others. As believers in Christ, we are called to be messengers of God's good news. We are to share the love and redemption of Christ with a world in need. That is our promised mountain, which God, in Psalm 2:8 is inviting us to ask for as our inheritance. This mountains include all nations and the entire world of people; not world of material. To describe this beautiful thing, and the privilege is brings to be a part of it, the prophet sees the beauty on our feet. Hallelujah!
Action Steps: Reflect on the ways in which you came to Christ. Share the Good News of salvation with others.
Ask God to give you opportunities to share the Gospel with those around you.
Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to be a messenger of good news.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of sharing the Good News with others. Help us to be messengers of Your love and redemption, and give us opportunities to share the Gospel with those around us. Thank You for the beauty of evangelism and for the privilege of being a part of it — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
