Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, March 12 2020
Today’s Text: John 21:1-8
Key Verse: John 21:3 (KJV ): ”Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.”
The Passover Lamb has been slained and a most major turn in human history had occurred. He is alive forever more, and He has promised the Holy Spirit’s power for all believers; but getting past the Passover to the Pentecost is something each disciple must have to face. And of course, whatever happened to Peter happens to us all whenever we feel the promises delay. We all wee waiting is not colorful. It is grey.
But friends, our salvation is closer than when we first believed. We must not look back to the things of the past or abandon our higher vocation. Pentecost for us represents more than enduement with power, the Spirit and the power are already given us—hallelujah; it is assurance of the presence of the Lord. Therefore, hold on to the promise—for though it tarries, it shall sure come. God’s promises are forever sure. Going back to Galilee is no gain at all. The apostles caught nothing— and that what going back will do to us.
Quote for the Day: "Like Peter, we tend to want to redeem the time and not not stay idle though the Lord says wait.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, teach me patience. Help me grow in the grace to wait even when waiting hurts, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
