Today’s Text: Mark 3:22-30
Key Verse: Mark 3:27 (ESV): "But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house."
Everyday, each man is comfronted by various levels and hierarchies of spiritual obstacles which our Lord teaches that we must bind and dethrone. In this text, Jesus pictures that obstacle, Satan, as the strong man, whom we must bind to plunder his house. To plunder the house of Satan is an allegory for setting his captives free; or to restrain, limit or subdue his influence in our lives and communities.
As a child of God, you have the power and responsibility to bind the strong man in your own life. There are several reasons you must do this: You must set yourself and your people free from Satan's bondage, lies, and oppression. You must exercise your authority, delegated by Christ, to overcome Satan's schemes in your space. You must protect yourself, loved ones, and community from Satan's attacks and deceit. And you must overcome Satan to advance God's Kingdom and reign in your life, community, and world.
When the strong man is out of bound in your life; it create an enabling environment where God's love, truth, and grace can flourish, and you can enjoy your true freedom and transformation. Unfortunately, many fail to understand the nature of spiritual battle: which, of course, is part of the strong man's strategies to keep the authority of believers relegated so he may perpetuate his strongholds.
This is a call to action! It is high time you arise boldly by faith and confront that strongman in your life; whatever it represents: challenges, obstacles, or oppressive forces. You cannot deny, avoid or ignore him, or he will continue to ravage your life, weakening your strength, deflating your faith, causing harm and threatening the very essence of your life. But you can confront and overcome the devil.
See him only like a boulder blocking your path, whether that is — a challenging situation, a difficult person, or a personal struggle. You have the option to either turn your back, avoid the boulder, and allow it to remain a barrier in your life, or face it head-on, examine it, and find a way to climb over or move it out of your way. The truth is: You can claim victory over Satan and all his cohorts. You can rest from battles. You can defeat that barrenness, debts, abuse, addiction, dysfunctional relationships, oppression and exploitation, fear, self-doubt, and limiting beliefs.
Quote for the Day: "The power at work in David that overcame Goliath is the same power at work in your life. Face that strongman, bind him routehim out of business." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear God, I come before you today, seeking your strength and power to overcome the strongman in my life. I know that you have given me authority over all the power of the enemy. I bind the strongman of fear and anxiety, doubt and unbelief, addiction and bondage, sickness and infirmity, poverty and lack, and of discouragement and depression. I declare my victory and I receive divine strength to walk in triumph — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
