By All Means Find Jesus

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, August 21, 2024

Today’s Text:  Mark 2:1-12

Key Verse: Mark 2:4 (ESV): "And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay."

This passage reveals the power of determination and faith which the four friends of the paralytic man had and demonstrated. The were faced with seemingly impossible situation yet refused to give up. They took bold action to ensure their firend's encounter with Jesus. Often, we are limited and hindered by many factors. The crowd prevented them from reaching Jesus through conventional means. The roof prevented them from unconventional means. But none of these barriers could stop men who believe their friend's help depends on one and onky true and living savior.

To demonstrate their active faith, they bypassed the crowd, removed the roof, and lowered their friend down before Jesus reveal their faith. They showed perseverance and creativity in seeking healing and connection with God. We should learn from these men. We should never allow the huddles we face in life to push us back. These huddles can be anything, including flimsy excuses, friends, jobs and family. These things are capable of robbing us the opportunity to access Jesus.

Removing life huddles dont come as easy. No. It involces more than literally uncovering the roof. They most had to first brainstorm on ulternativr entrance and found none; reasoned out the roof option; struggle to climb up; worked hard to lift their friend; removed tiles or thatching to create an opening; forge an enlarged hole to accommodate the bed; and then carefully lowered their paralytic friend down to Jesus. We all need Jesus; but perhaps, we need a revival of our devotion.

Imagine Zacheus, a short man who wanted to see Jesus amidst a crowded multitude. He was devoted to meeting Him but the throng ws too dense. But, determined to see Jesus, he climped a Sycamore tree. You too can stopped at nothing to overcome obstacles and connect with Jesus. What obstacles are you facing in your spiritual journey? Are you willing to take bold action and seek creative ways to deepen your connection with God? In the sane way, how can you support others in their pursuit of spiritual growth and healing?

Action Steps: God is depending on us to embody the determination and faith of the paralytic man's friends, doing everything that lies within our power, and trusting in God's power to transform lives of other.

Quote for the Day: "You have the inner power to scale obstacles that block your path. Whether by breaking through the roof of limitations or lowering yourself to the presence of Christ, or both." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Lord, break open every barrier and obstacle that represents the physical and metaphorical roof that prevents me from reaching my desired destination or connecting with greater grace. Grant me access and entry through anything that serves as a gateway, controlling access to my miracles. Whatever seems blocked, create a new entry point for me — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
