Today’s Text: 1 Kings 5: 1-10
Key Verse: 1 Kings 5:4 (ESV): "But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side. There is neither adversary nor misfortune."
King Solomon, son of David, has just ascended to the throne, and seeks to build the temple for God, which his father could not build because of all the battles and unrests that buffetted him. But, to do this, first, he needs peace and stability in the kingdom. His father had faced numerous battles and adversities throughout his reign so much that he could not fulfill his highest dream, building the temple. But Solomon, however, enjoyed "rest on every side" From Hebrew "makhah," meaning quiet or rest. This text describes a state of peace, security, and absence of conflict, which Solomon acknowledges is an act of God's providence.
Only God grants this kind of reprieve. No effort of ours could do it. Unfortunately, many would claim credit for times of peace and calm in their lives and fail to acknowledge God. We.need to kniw that peace is always God's intervention. And, yes, indeed, true peace comes from the Prince of Peace alone. When we have peace, it allows us to focus on building. Solomon's ability to build the temple indicates our need for peace to fulfill our God-given purposes.
Our world's peace may seem fleeting right now, but God remains our constant refuge. In the midst of this chaos and turmoil: amidst global conflicts, personal struggles, and uncertainty, we can find peace in God's presence and sovereignty. Yes, like Solomon, we can enjoy times of peace to build foundations for our lives, relationships, and communities. As Solomon's found such calm that benefited his kingdom, we too can find peace that would radiate to those around us, fostering hope and harmony. But we've God to acknowledge, embrace and trust Jesus Christ, who is our Peace.
Quote for the Day: "It is only in God's sovereignty that we find our serenity. Our peace is not a circumstance, but a choice to trust in God's providence." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for coming into this troubled world as our Prince of Peace. Please grant us peace on every side, that we may acknowledge Your presence, fulfill our purposes, and be a source of hope in our troubled age and generation — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
