Today’s Text: Psalm 147:1-11
Key Verses: Psalm 147:3 (ESV): “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
I once came across a story of a woman so battered and buffeted by life’s difficulties that her physician had to think she must be really depressed and mentally unstable. But upon thorough examination a totally different situation was established. So, the physician had to confess, “It takes a brave soul to bear all you did so calmly.” But the suffering patient replied: "It is nothing of a brave soul at all; but of God that heals broken hearts, and binds up their wounds.
In that moment, she was quoting the key verse of today’s text. Wether we can or cannot recognize where we are helped by God does not make it less true. We know it when healing is in the bodily sphere but cannot recognize it when it is in the spirit-sphere. But wherever healing is needed in your life, divine healing is coming your life today.
We serve the God who knows exactly our frame and needs. He knows we are spirits, and we have the body. He knows how and when our bodily sufferings get to and affect our spirit, and vice versa. But the word of God pierces even to divide and discern just where the problems are, and where the healing is needed even to the innermost corners of the heart.
Is your accumulated pain getting you jolted into depression? Or are you tempted to cry “can somebody help, please?!” Oh what if, the response is, “Sorry, no one can help?” I tell you what: You can fix your gaze upon the completed work on Calvary, which represents the very height of bodily suffering and heaviness of heart — and which also represents much more: it represents the healing of our broken hearts and the binding up of our bodies.
Quote for the Day: “Wether we can or cannot recognize where we are helped by God does not make it less true. We know it when healing is in the bodily sphere but cannot recognize it when it is in the spirit-sphere.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I come before you today in need of your healing hand. In you all things are possible. Hold my hands and heart within yours, and renew my mind, body, and soul. Strengthen me with your presence, and be near me in my time of weakness and pain; sustain me by your grace, that my strength and courage may not fail; heal me according to your will; and help me — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
