Choose Whom You Will Serve

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Friday, March 29, 2019

Today’s Text: Joshua 24:14-18

Key Verse: Joshua 24:15 (ESV): ”And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

While there is only one way to eternal hope are peace with God, the enemy has unlimited “betweenities” set before humanity. We have a choice to make that will determine where our entire course of life shall head.

Joshua had led the people through a moment when there’s no doubting the amazing love and power of the Lord. They have seen so much of the Lord’s power and goodness. Looking at the whole book of Joshua, one would clearly see how the story pictures the people’s transition from a miraculous supernatural experiences of/in their years of sojourn through the desert to a more mundane, natural existence in the Promised Land.

The transition brings a different experience to the people, and place the between opinions. Therefore, it becomes very important for Joshua to exhort them to fear and serve the Lord who brought them hither. He calls to them to consider the alternative of rejecting Him, and to make a decisive choice. We, or our situations, are no different today. Having been so blessed with many blessings of enlightenment and freedom, our generation has now taken liberty for license—and it shows in all the choices we make.

It is okay to be brought to a practical decision in full view of all the issues which face us. God gives that right. The Maker had said His Spirit will not contend with His creatures over choices. But the choices themselves are a test of life and allegiance. Truth does not shun the light. We have a choice to make between good and evil, life and death; between endless philosophies or all other systems of worship and modes of life and the life giving grace of our Lord and Savior.

Joshua, being the leader of the people, and an Old Testament foreshadow of Christ counsels submission to God, and exhorts the people to chose what is right. The value of devotion is in its free willingness. God didn’t bless humanity with freedom of choice to release us from obligation, but to exempt compulsion. He leaves responsibility at our doorstep so that we are full stewards of our life. Is is still our duty to chose right. It is our obligation to serve God.

Quote for the Day: “Faced with the choice between life and death, good and evil, God and mammon, or heaven or hell; indecision is a system error, and a wrong decision is a fatal error.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, O how I thank You for not leaving me without counsel on issues that are hard for me to figure out. Thank You for giving me the Spirit of Truth that guide me in the wisdom right choices. Help me Lord to be obedient to Your Spirit’s prompts, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

With all my Love and Prayer,
