Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, December 28, 2024
Today's Text: Hebrews 12:1-3
Key Verse: Hebrews 12:2 (KJV): "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Determination is a vital quality that enables us to overcome obstacles, achieve our goals, and fulfill our purposes. It is the spark that ignites the human spirit, awakening our inner resolve and empowering us to tap into our deepest potential. It's the catalyst that transforms our desires into actions, our dreams into reality, and our obstacles into opportunities. With determination, we unlock the strength and resilience within us, and we become unstoppable forces for achieving our goals and pursuing our passions.
We find an inspiring example of determination in the life of Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith. He demonstrated unwavering determination by His endurance of the cross, and the despising of the shame. He fixed His eyes on the joy set before Him, which was the salvation of humanity. This joy motivated Him to persevere through the suffering and humiliation of the cross. What is your life motivation? How determined are you to achieve yoyr dream? We are approaching another year, and you will need to set new goals and determinations. We are blessed to have the example of Jesus' determination. It is a reminder to us that our own struggles and challenges are temporary and fleeting. Like Jesus, we must fix our eyes on the eternal joy and reward that awaits us, just as Jesus did.
Abraham Lincoln also illustrates the importance of determination and resolve. As he prepared to sign the Emancipation Proclamation, he took his pen, moved it to the signature line, paused for a moment, and then dropped the pen. When asked why, he replied, "If my name goes into history, it will be for this act, and if my hand trembles when I sign it, there will be some who will say, 'he hesitated.'" He then turned to the table, took up the pen, and boldly signed his name. Lincoln's determination to stand firm in his convictions, despite potential criticism or backlash, is a powerful lesson for us as we prepare for the fresh journey of a brand new year. We must fix our eyes on the prize just as Jesus fixed His eyes on the joy set before Him, we must focus on our goals and the eternal reward that awaits us. Just as Jesus endured the cross, despising the shame, we must be willing to persevere through challenges and difficulties, knowing that they are temporary. We must stand firm in our convictions, even in the face of adversity.
Action Steps: Reflect on your goals and aspirations. What is the "joy set before you" that motivates you to persevere? Identify areas where you need to endure hardship with perseverance. Ask God for strength and courage to overcome these challenges. Stand firm in your convictions, just as Abraham Lincoln did. Remember that your resolve and determination can inspire others and bring about positive change.
Quote for the Day: "Determination sparks the human spirit, empowering us to tap into our potential, transform desires into actions, and overcome obstacles. It makes us unstoppable in achieving our goals." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the example of Jesus' unwavering determination. Help us to fix our eyes on the eternal joy and reward that awaits us. Give us the strength and courage to endure hardship with perseverance and to stand firm in our convictions — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
