Today’s Text: John 21:15-17
Key Verses: John 21:15 (ESV): “When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”"
Can you imagine watching this scene of Jesus’ conversation with Peter on a large screen? What can you see? For me, I see a gracious Lord, Master, who at the same time is a kind brother and friend. Today’s friends roast us to our marrow; but Jesus never did that. He knows our uprisings and down-fallings yet He always has a wonderful way of restoring us—even when we fail Him! Our earthly friends humiliate, criticize and castigate us. They don’t even give us a chance to try harder. But the love of Jesus is always coming after us. He chases us to our Seaside and takes us aside.
Like Peter, we sometimes miserably fail Him. We flee at every easy Gethsemane. We sleep at most desperate call for devotion. We deny before any little lad. And, we return to every beckoning Gennesaret. And though we are slow to understanding His call of love, He gently and patiently asks us again and again. He gives us every opportunity needed to reaffirm our love for Him. Or, who would think that we, like Peter, would ever find the favor of ever being used by Jesus?! We who, like Peter, are unfaithful in most crucial moments. We fail our promises and are not faithful all the way. But Jesus always takes us aside, as He did Peter. His love is redeeming. It is only necessary that we truly love Him back, and reaffirm our dedication to Him.
Quote for the Day: “God's love always conquers, and it is unconditional and eternal. No level of hate, error and fall could ever lessen the power of His love.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please bless us with Love, O Merciful God; That we may Love as you Love! That we may show patience, tolerance, Kindness, caring and love to all — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
