Contamination of Sin

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, December 19, 2023

Today’s Text: Psalm 51:1-13

Key Verse: Psalm 51:2 (NKJV): “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”

One of the most commonly used illustration for the powerful effect of sin is the clear water pitcher experiment. When you set a clear pitcher down, and get yourself two clear cups, an eyedropper, iodine solution, water, and bleach; and you fill the pitcher with water; pour some of the water from the pitcher into a cup; use the eyedropper to draw enough iodine; drop some iodine into the cup and watch. It does not matter if you add a lot or a little of iodine, the water will still change color and become undrinkable for you.

Whether the iodine is a lot or not; or whether the change in the water is visible or not, it is all the same contaminated. That is the way sim makes us before God even if it is a little drop of it. The pitcher represents God and the cup stands for you and I. We were made to enjoy clear relationship with God and draw from His pitcher of love. The iodine is the sin that contaminates our spirit and make us unworthy before God.

However, thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord, who makes us clean from all sins and iniquities when we repent and turn to Him. That’s what happens when we fill the second cup with bleach, which represents the blood of Jesus, and the bleach is poured into the  corrupted cup. Spiritually, theologically, and essentially, the bleach reacts with the iodine and turns the contents of the cup into a clear one again. This is how Jesus cleanses us from all our sins when we cry out to Him, like the Psalmist, to “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”

The power, quality or quantity of iodine poured into the cup does not matter anymore, it becomes clear when the bleach is applied. When we come to Jesus, He cleanses us from all sins, regardless of what it is, and we are then free to enter into a relationship with God again. If you turn to Jesus today, He will purge you with His hyssop, and you shall be clean. Ask Him to wash you, and you shall be whiter than snow. And He’d make you hear joy and gladness, and the backbones of your relationship that has broken will rejoice again.

Quote for the Day: As long as it is true that your relationship with God keeps you from sin; it is also true that your sin can keep you from relationship with God.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before you seeking Your forgiveness. I confess I have been offering myself over to sin, and now I have become contaminated by its stains, and a slave to its grip. I renounce it today in the name of Jesus. You who chose to be called the friend of sinners and shed Your blood for my cleansing; please free me from the stains of sins. and make me clean again — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
