Dimensions of Grace (Part 1)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, March 7, 2023

Today’s Text: Ephesians 2:1-10

Key Verse: Ephesians 2:5 (ESV): “Even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.”

Everything in the life as well as in God’s dealings with man comes to us in measures, dimensions, phases, levels, and stages. In a man’s life, there is a stage of coupling, and another stage of conception, then childbirth, cradle, crawling and so on. This is also true in our lives in union with Christ. All earliest apostles of Jesus knew and taught this concept of the measure of God’s gift of grace to each believer. It is important for a child of God to learn the different dimensions of grace so that rather than remain stagnant or comfortable on any level, we may eagerly crave to grow in grace as we daily walk out all that God works in to us. This is why God inspired Holy men of old to write on this concepts in great details.

Why is it so very important to understand the dimensions of grace? It is so that each of us know for sure that we have absolutely nothing we bring to the table. Therefore, we need to understand how we can tap into this absolutely free gift and to experience needed, desired and abiding spiritual growth in our lives. The first level and lesson of God’s grace came to us by the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. Before the cross, we were spiritually dead in sin, ruled by Satan, disobedient, depraved, deprived, walking in the flesh, and regarded as children of wrath. But, by grace, God saved us and made us alive together with Christ. This appears rudimentary, but except we all understand this dimension of grace—how we are forgiven, transformed in our thinking; resulting in the renewal of our mind and heart—we’d be like old folks in spiritual dementia.

This level of grace humbles us because it tells us we are a result of nothing we merit. But of the supernatural dispensation of favor that we do not merit but was concluded and freely given to us by or in Christ. It is unmerited, freely given, and we can grow in it as we continue to increase in our knowledge of, and love for, God. The Christian life is a journey in which God continues to work this grace out in us throughout lifetime as we continue to encounter Him daily and taste newer portions of His amazing grace each passing moment.

Quote for the Day: “The work of grace is progressive. It is a continuous process of divine influence in a believer’s life for daily regeneration and sanctification. No stage or level of plateaued life—no, we only grow in grace daily." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for Your finished work of grace. And I ask, by the power of your Spirit, that You help me to grow daily in grace so that I may become a full reflector of the same for people around me — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
