Dimensions of Grace (Part 4)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, March 12, 2023

Today’s Text: Acts 4:23-37

Key Verses: Acts 4:33 (NIV): “With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all.”

We have finally come to the dimension of grace that has been labeled: great grace. Well, it’s our fourth part of the series, and indeed is the fourth dimension of grace. Every can, but not all operate in that level. Our Lord wanted all of us to attain to that level of grace. He said: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. But there is more to this grace than power. It is the dynamic side of grace. It is the grace that emboldens the apostles, and all of us to declare God’s word with courage. It is also the same grace at work in us when we obtain favor in the sight of men.

It is also the same operation of the Holy Spirit that enables us to endure hardships or suffer nobly and well. When that grace is given, we can bear witness to Jesus in season and out of season; and before kings, and nobles. We cannot receive that grace and walk in hate, division, discrimination and disunity. Rather, it helps us grow in mutual forbearance, and charity. It may be regarded as the grace that apostle James describes as “more grace” when he says “God resists the proud, but gives more grace to the humble (James 4:6)

Indeed, it is not out of place to regard this as the truest evidence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is the prefigured promise of the Spirit in the Old Testament. “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.” (Zechariah 12:10)

Quote for the Day: “The work of grace helps us in allowing one’s self and others. It helps conquer fear, ego and pride and edifies the soul and nourishes the spirit to love and be loved." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we bow before your mighty presence and offer you this prayer for grace and deliverance. We ask you, Oh Lord God, to show us your divine grace and be the merciful God we know. Save us from evil and his works, and grant us the spirit of grace and supplication to look on You, the One they have pierced — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
