Today’s Text: Psalm 37:1-6
Key Verse: Psalm 37:3 (KJV): "Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.”
In my experience, there is a fact of life that I have learnt without a doubt: the moment you position yourself to be meeting the needs of people, the natural law of inertia that pushes us back from doing something when we coukd totally melts into a kind-centripetal force tgat attracts even more people towards your direction as if your were a center or axis of help. Thr more you help people, the more they flock around you with needs.
This is important for believers to understand in the light of Jesus' saying that “The poor you will always have with you” (Mark 14:7). I know that some rationize that as much as we may want to help everyone with a need, we just possibly can’t. Yes! No one is sufficient by himself. No one can provide food to every hungry person in their neighborhood, keep every beedy child from cruelty, every homeless from the streets, or every widow and orphan from oppression. But, today's keytext is a remi der that if we are good and kind, we are fed by theord. This means that the more we have people with financial, physical, or spiritual needs in our lives, the more God gives the resources needed to meet their needs.
Apostle Paul admonishes that, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10). Yes, there are users and abusers all around, but we must know that the Lord also brings those who genuinely need us into our lives. And we must trust Him to provide for us. As we do good to those around us, He will meet our needs. “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack” (Proverbs 28:27 KJV). So, friends, let us open our eyes to the needs around us and trust in the Lord that as we care for others, He will care for us.
Quote for the Day: “As the Lord cares for us, we are indebted to care for others; and the more we care for others, the more He cares for us.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, sometimes I don’t think I can take care of myself talkless of another person! When I see and feel that my resources are already stretched, please give me the faith to stretch out my hands to the needy, knowing that You will provide my needs as I minister — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
