Do You Believe?

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, July 3, 2024

Today’s Text: Acts 16:25-34

Key Verse: Acts 16:31 (ESV): "And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”"

The gospel is not a rocket science. It is as simple as ABC. God's word tells us to "believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be save." A very simple affirmation that forms the most central truth of the Christian faith. God demonstrates His love for the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Today meditation sprang from a conversation between a Philippian jailer and Paul and Silas, who were imprisoned and then freed by God through an earthquake. It's a simple salvation message that presents the core need of every man of faith in Jesus Christ as prerequisite for salvation.

According to Romans 10:9, believing in Jesus Christ means: recognizing Him as the Son of God, accepting His death and resurrection as payment for our sins, trusting in His love and grace, and surrendering our lives to His guidance, wisdom and control both as personal Lord and Savior. Therefore, the statement "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved" is a call to faith in Jesus Christ and the path to salvation. Here's a breakdown:

To believe in the Lord Jesus Christ is to trust, have faith, and accept Him as the Son of God, accepting His authority, divinity and power to save. Calling Jesus the Son of God does not reduce His divinity. We use that term to acknowledge His coming in human form to save humanity and rescue us from sin with its consequences. There is a certain promise of salvation for those who believe in Him, and a statement of invitation to trust in Jesus Christ as the way to salvation, forgiveness, and eternal life to those who do not already believe.

Here are a quotable quote and a prayer of confession based on the theme of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ:

Quote for the Day: "Faith is the bridge that closes the gap between our sin and God's salvation, and Jesus Christ is the foundation upon which that bridge is built." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, the Lord. I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of your salvation. I confess my sins and my inability to earn my way to you. I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord, and I trust in His death and resurrection as the payment for my sins. Forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Grant me a new heart and a new spirit, and empower me to live a life that honors you — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
