Doing All Things As Unto the Lord

QDaily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, September 24, 2024

Today's Text: Colossians 3:23-24

Key Verse: Colossians 3:23 (NASB): "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men."

If you are a believer in Christ Jesus, you already know that our ultimate goal is to glorify God in every aspect of life. One of the main purposes of Paul's letter to the Colossians is to remind them and us to do all things "as unto the Lord." He was addressing their relationship with Christ and its implications on daily life. He was selective in his choice of words when he used the Greek phrase "κατὰ Kyrios" that means, "as for the Lord." This phrase perfectly emphasizes the directional focus of our actions. The apostle urges us to do this "heartily" i.e., with sincerity, enthusiasm, and wholehearted dedication. Having this mindset transforms our sense of duty. We see evey work, not as mere duty but as divine assignment. We perceive every relationship, nit from self-interest but for the purpose of serving others. In the same way, our daily routines are nit seen as mundane tasks but as sacred opportunities.

The reason us simple: God is always with us in everything; and He sees beyond human approval to give eternal blessings only to His faithful servants. So, doing things as unto God shows that we acknowledge His omnipresent nature. We understand that God is always with us, seeing snd weighing every action, thought, and intention; and that our ultimate goal is to glorify God in every aspect of life. Ask yourself if this realization actually inspires you to work with integrity, diligence, and passion while serving others or with them. Are you conscious of the fact that our efforts are not just for human eyes but for God's.

Learning the secrets of doing things "as unto the Lord" changes how we view evaluations and approval of men. Rather than seeking human recognition, we focus on pleasing God, who sees beyond outward appearances (1 Samuel 16:7). To free ourselves from people-pleasing and performance anxiety, we must develop this shift in perspective. It also allows us to work with humility and sincerity in "whatever you do" encompasses all aspects of life, including work, relationships, and daily tasks. Beloved, serve the Lord in all you do, and you will store up eternal treasures which our Lord promised to His faithful servants (Matthew 25:21). That (His promises) are our motivation, not any praise or recognition of man.

Action Steps: Evaluate your actions. Reflect on how much value you place on love righteousness. Identify areas of compromise in your life. Seek God's guidance, and delight in His commands.

Action Steps: Maintain integrity, even in small tasks. View challenges as opportunities to trust God. Reflect on your motivations. And, identify areas to improve your dedication to God.

Quote for the Day: "Doing our best to offer our best to God opens the door for God to do His best for us, in us and through us." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for all the opportunities to be useful for your glory. Please help me Lord to serve you conscientiously and faithfully and to your glory in all that I do — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
