Don’t Blend the Old With New

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, November 1, 2021

Today’s Text: Luke 5:33-38

Key Verses: Luke 5:36 (NIV): “And He was also telling them a parable: “No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and puts it on an old garment; otherwise he will both tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old.”

The story in today’s scripture and the illustration that follows it is commonly reported by all three Gospels. The only difference is how doctor Luke, also known as St. describes it like a parable while other reported it as real life narrative. But all four reveal the apparent folly of having to rent a piece from a new garment to sew it upon an old garment. The spiritual import of this narrative is clear: There is a necessary disdain and despising of old order whenever a new order is enacted. The old naturally gives way for the new to take its course.

This is a spiritual truth. It touches all aspects of life. I guess that’s why Dr. Luke applied the literary form of a parable. Brethren, we have upon us, another brand new month. It is our brand new opportunity to experience and explore the wonders and blessings of Christ’s grace. We must therefore be stewards of that grace, and must never allow any shade of contradiction which the enemy loves to see. We must not suffer the old order of our previous life, or month(s) against the new. Old ways are totally incongruent with the new. There are manifold graces apportioned for this new month; but the lifestyle, economies and constitution of the old life or way will not support them.

Quote for the Day: “Any thought or thing that pallies the old order with the new; pure with impure; godly with the ungodly is double standard, discoloration, disfigurement and destructive.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please open my eyes to your new and amazing dealings in my life. And no matter how imposing the old order of things are today, please give me the strength to give them up for the new things you are working in me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers, I wish you a happy new month:
