Don’t Waste Your Life

Today’s Scripture Threshings for Tuesday, February 12 , 2019

Today’s Text: Ephesians 5:7-17

Key Verse:Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (vs. 17, ESV)

It no gain for me to say how much I race against time each day and yet feel there’s not enough minutes within an hour, or not enough hours within a day. Or don’t you ever think about this? When did we almost crowd to the cloud with jubilation to welcome 2019 as a new year that right now we’re at the mid week of February already? Does this jolt somebody out of any carelessness and forgetfulness of the fact that time is fleeting and life is short? None of us is given more than 24 hours per day, 168 hours per week, and 8,760 hours per year. No matter how hard you try, you can’t ever add no dime time to your day; or a handful to your life.

Therefore God wants us to give careful thoughts to how we use the time given to us.

While it is the continued strategy of the enemy to keep us so occupied in the drifting things of life that fill up our heart and time so much against true life purpose and essence, the word of God charges us to live not as fools, but as wise. Wisdom is principal in life: it is the practical knowledge of the true end and purpose of our existence.

Unfortunately, today‘s concept of wisdom is based on pursuit of things that beckon us to spend our lives on trivial diversions, slipping through life caught up with seeking success, comfort, and pleasure among other things. But God designed desires us for far more than these.

We have a charge before us today, believers in Christ should not play the unwise. No we are not permitted to do so in our talk, no, not in our walk and conversation. In our use of time, we are admonished to be business like. We must make the most of it, pursuing an understanding of what the will of the Lord is. I stand with the apostle today, pretty sure you don’t want to waste your life. You don’t want to come to the end of life full of regret. But if you’re ever going to keep from regretful end, you must keep from wasting your life. If you’re going to keep from wasting your life, you must understand what God wants, do what it takes, and walk in it with all carefulness.

Quote for the Day: “Basing life on material as if it were life’s essence or necessity is like building a ban house for vapor; and trying to sense from nonsense.”_ (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am grateful for this life you’ve given me. You’ve blessed me with different gifts and talents. Help me understand how to overcome my distractions and to cultivate those things to bring glory to your great name. In Jesus’ most precious name. Amen.
