Today’s Text: James 5:13-18
Key Verse: James 5:16 (KJV): "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
In Luke 11:1, we find our Lord Jesus praying in a certain place. His communion with His father must have been so spectacular that when he finished the prayer, one of His disciples had to beg Him, "Lord, teach us to pray...'" Our prayer life can be so spectacular and effective when we open our hearts to God to learn His meeknessanddependenceon God. James, was a zealous disciple and might be suspected as the very disciple who sought to learn the Master's way when it comes to prayer. He learned that with prayer, there's no place for self righteousness. He had learned the "forgive us our trespasses and deliver us from evil" line from the Master's pattern.
Therefore, he admonishes believers to practice cleansing from sin so that their prayer might be effective. He believes that if we can open our hearts and release the poison of sin, then we can receive more grace from Him no matter what had happened or is going on in our lives. We can then pray effectively and resultfully even if we've never prayed before or felt not worthy. Once the toxins are cleared from our spirit, our faith becomes enlivened and energized to pray effectively even if we have no special formula or mastery of how to communicate with God, which we never needed the first place. All that is required to pray effectively is for your heart to be open, and the Lord will show you grace and mercy.
Quote for the Day: “An open heart is the most important, if not the only, strategy to effective prayer to God." — Simon Olatunji
Prayer: Dear Lord and Father, I long for Your presence more than anything else in this world. I pray You give me the desire and heart to long after You and Your Word. I'm grateful for the effective grace and satisfaction You offer through calling upon You in prayer—continue to guide me on this journey to desiring You and Your righteousness above all else — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
