Embrace Your King

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, April 5, 2020

Today’s Text: John 12:1-16

Key Verse: John 12:13 (NIV): ”They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the king of Israel!

In the centuries just before the triumphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem, the Jews, through conquest and economic migration had been brought under the Roman Empire. Though they enjoyed privileges and thrived economically, they were brought under Roman overlords, lost their identity, national pride and their hope to take back their kingdom. But somehow, they maintained a faint hope for the coming of a revolutionary Messiah.

As we commemorate the triumphant entry of Christ in to Jerusalem today, the Lord would have us reflect on how we too have been brought under so much cultural and spiritual shadow of the world system, and how desperately we need the savior. However, we must first realize our desperate need for Jesus. We must understand our darkness and our need for light. And we must brace up, against all odds, to cast down our losses and gains, our pride or fear, and go out to the Lord. We must embrace Him as true King, and let Him ride and rule our hearts. Without this, the spiritual significance of the triumphant entry is lost.

Quote for the Day: "Jesus is the hope of the world, our source of consolation, our help.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, O You who dwells in the heavens and reigns in the affairs of men, please save us, we pray; for salvation owns its only source in You!. Save our age in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
