Entreated to Reconcile

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, September 23, 2023

Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:20 (ESV): “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

In a Polish press release of March 3, 1991, a priest by the name Edward Zentara offered his own life when the commandant of Auschwitz sentenced 10 prisoners to die because one prisoner escaped. Zentara thought giving his life for the life of a prisoner might offer him and others an opportunity to live and make a decision for Christ, who on the cross took our sins on himself! Jesus gave His life for us and was punished for our thoughts, deeds and ways.

He (Christ) offers us a double imputation: on the cross. He imputed our guilt and the penalty we deserved upon Himself; and imputed His own righteousness upon us. So that our slate of sin is perfectly, permanently and perpetually clean; and the stains are forever removed. Such is the wonderful and bold promise of the Gospel to man. Zentara can only die in the place of another to give them a chance to find Jesus; but his death can neither atone for their sins nor assure that they’d ever find the Savior.

That’s why recognizing the full vicarious redeeming representation and glorious offer of full pardon and life that Christ’s death offers; the gospel is hereby beckoning on all men. And, to such pardon, the apostle appeals on behalf of Christ that all men everywhere would avail themselves of this blessing, turn from sin’s seductive snare, and be reconciled to God. Jesus gave His life to make a way for you regardless of how corrupt, faulty and far away you are. God’s wrath against our sins has already been spent on those who receive Him as their Lord and Savior.

Quote for the Day: “The essence and beauty of the gospel is not in doctrine, it is about knowing God in Christ entreating men to be reconciled to Him in full pardon and newness.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear LORD, please don’t let your bleeding on the cross, and your pleading for me to come ever be in vain. Do not permit anything to separate me from this wondrous conquering love. Please fill my heart with Your love so that I may spent a glorious eternity with You at the end — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
