Exploits through Faithfulness

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, January 15, 2024

Today's Text: Genesis 22:1-14

Key Verse: Genesis 22:12 (KJV): "And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me."

One of the most tragic events during Reagan Presidency was the Sunday morning terrorist bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, in which hundreds of Americans were killed or wounded while they slept. Many dazed survivors had to dig out their trapped brothers from beneath the rubble. A few days after the tragedy, Marine Corps Commandant Paul Kelly, visited the wounded survivors in a Frankfurt hospital. Among them was severely wounded Corporal Jeffrey Lee Nashton, who struggled to motioned for a piece of paper and a pen, and wrote the two words motto of the Marines, "Semper Fi" which are Latin for "forever faithful." With those two simple words, he spoke for the millions of Americans who have sacrificed bodies, limbs and lives for their country; and have remained faithful.

The Bible text before us today consists of the story of Abraham's exemplary faithfulness when God asked him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, as a test of his faith. The patriarch obeyed, even when it didn't make sense to at all. Faithfulness and obedience often go together; and require sacrifice, trust, and surrender. And both, no doubt, can be challenging. But, we are called to be faithful at all times. The Lord does not regard any burnt offerings and sacrifices than faithfully obeying His voice. Please always bear in mind that faithfulness is a fundamental aspect of our walk with God. It is through it that we demonstrate our love and trust in Him.

Abraham obeyed God's command, even when it was difficult. We must learn to obey God's commands, even when they challenge us. The patriarch trusted God's plan, even when he didn't understand it. We must learn to trust God's plan for our lives, even when it doesn't make sense to us. We are called unto undertaking, not to understanding. We must be willing to sacrifice just like Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. We must be willing to sacrifice our own desires and interests for the sake of following God. Such faithfulness is not one motivated by slavish fear, but reverential fear of God. We must cultivate a healthy fear of God that recognizes His power and authority in our lives.

Action Steps: Reflect on areas where you need to be more faithful to God. Ask God to give you the courage to obey His commands, even when they're difficult. Trust God's plan for your life, even when you don't understand it. Be willing to sacrifice your own desires and interests for the sake of following God.

Quote for the Day: "Faithfulness is not just about what we do, but why we do it. It's about obeying God's commands, trusting His plan, and fearing Him." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Abraham, who demonstrated faithfulness in the face of difficulty. Help us to obey Your commands, trust Your plan, and fear You. Give us the courage to be faithful, even when it's hard — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
