Familiarity with the ‘Holy’ (Part 13)

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Thursday, April 18, 2019

Today’s Text: Revelation 21:1-8

Key Verse: Revelation 21:8 (ESV): “The fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

We are doubling down on our meditation line of familiarity with the ‘Holy.’ Today is our last but one part of the series. Isn’t it another form of familiarity with the ‘Holy’ that our world have so minimized sin that almost all of us have become almost numb to its pervasive influence?

Our society overgeneralizes the fact that God is love, but forgets that He’s also truth (John 4:24), light (1 John 1:5), the God of justice (Isaiah 61:8) and he is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). If we desire to have fellowship with him, then, we cannot afford to cassualize His holiness while we walk in our own way. We must walk in his light (1 John 1:6).

Our text today is a reminder and a warning—that God’s anger is valid against the disobedient. We must be careful not to make sacred issues of our lives so commonplace that we run great risk of thinking that our Holy God is just as indifferent toward these sins as we are. No matter how callused we become to personal sin, no matter how well we may be able to justify it to ourselves or others, no matter how much society may condone or excuse it — we are assured in this text that the end of persistent, unrepentant sin is an everlasting separation from God.

Quote for the Day: “No callused justification or condonment of personal sin excludes any man from eternal consequences of sin.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, You who turns to the prayer of the poor and does not despise their prayer, I crave you Lord today, help me never to miss out of your good plans for me—in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayer,
