Fan Your Grace into Flame!

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, May 7, 2024

Today’s Text: 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 1:6 (NIV): "For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands."

In encouraging Timothy to stir up the gift that is in him, the elder apostle wants to ensure that Timothy and all believers that shall come to the hope of glory in Christ afterwards do not suffer any spiritual investment in them to suffer decline. The word “stir up” literally means to kindle up, or fan into flame. We all know by the revelation of 1Thessalonians 5:19 that it is both our choice as well as in our power to quench this Spirit or to fan it into flame.

When God gives us His graces of through His Holy Spirit, He fills us with divine powers and abilities necessary for the performance of our assignment on earth. These gifts within us can dwindle if not nurtured. If the oil in a lamp goes out, the light dims and dies. We need to actively fan the flame of grace to keep it burning brighter and brighter. By so doing, the Holy Spirit keeps empowering us in boldness, love, patience, forgiveness, usefulness and self-control.

Imagine a fire that once burned fiercely but has now reduced to embers. To revive it, we need to gently blow on the embers, adding kindling coals and fuel to restore its former intensity. This is the way it is with our spiritual gifts and passions can wane if not tended to. By prayer, meditation, and service, we can fan the flame of grace, reigniting our purpose and impact. Timothy was encouraged to rekindle his spiritual gift. We too must tend to our own inner fire. Let us not let our passion for God dwindle but rather fuel it with devotion, courage, and love, allowing His grace to shine brightly through us.

Quote for the Day: "God gives grace in levels and measures: not in a static state; but a most dynamic force that each believer can fan into flame." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your grace within me. Help me to fan it into a flame that burns brightly, empowering me to serve You with boldness, love, and self-discipline. May my life be a testament to Your power and grace — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
