Favor as with a Shield

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, March 21, 2025

Today's Text: Psalm 5:12

Key Verse: Psalm 5:12 (ESV): "For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield."

Here, we see King David in deep prayer for God's protection and guidance. He asks God to consider his enemies and to destroy them, but he also acknowledges God's favor and blessing upon the righteous. David recognizes that God's favor is like a shield that protects and covers him. The Bible teaches us that enemies operations can be a deterrent to God's favor in our lives. When we allow the enemy to dictate our actions and emotions, we can become distracted from God's plan and purpose for our lives. However, when we seek God's guidance and protection, we can overcome our enemies and experience God's favor in abundance.

While reflecting on the concept of enemies and favor, Charles Spurgeon said, "The presence of enemies is not a sign of God's displeasure, but rather a sign of His favor." He emphasized that when we are doing God's will, we can expect opposition from our enemies, but with God's guidance and protection, we can overcome them. So, if you ever felt like your enemies are a deterrent to God's favor in your life, remember that God is always with you. Seek His guidance and protection, and trust that He will lead you in righteousness and make His way straight before you.

The importance of God's favor in our lives cannot be overstated. Favor is the tangible expression of God's love and approval. When we walk in God's favor, we experience blessings, protection, and success in all areas of our lives. As the psalmist says, God's favor is like a shield that covers us, protecting us from harm and evil. Favor is the smile of God, and it is a shield that protects us from all harm." He emphasized that when we have God's favor, we can face any challenge or difficulty with confidence and courage. So, do you feel like you are facing challenges or difficulties without any protection or covering? God wants you to know that His favor is available to you always. As a child of God, you are righteous and deserving of God's favor. So, why not ask God to cover you with His favor as with a shield, and trust that He will protect and guide you.

Action Steps: Ask God to cover you with His favor as with a shield. Trust that God's favor will protect and guide you in all areas of your life. Walk in righteousness and obedience to God's Word, knowing that His favor is upon you. Share your testimony of God's favor in your life with others, encouraging them to seek God's favor.

Quote for the Day: "God's favor is always a game-changer. No one walks in God's favor without experiencing supernatural blessings, protection, and success." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today, asking for Your favor to cover me as with a shield. I trust that Your favor will protect and guide me in all areas of my life. Help me to walk in righteousness and obedience to Your Word, knowing that Your favor is upon me. In Jesus' most glorious name. Amen.
