Today’s Text: Psalm 5:1-12
Key Verse: Psalm 5:12 (ESV): "For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield.”
As believers, we are always blessed and surrounded by the mercy of God. His mercy is forever the foundation both of our hope and of our joy, in every thing. Let us learn to be contentin this testimony. The Lord blesses us, His righteous. Yes, we are His righteous: we have no righteousness of our own; but His righteousness imputed upon all that love and follow Christ in sincerity.
Our Divine blessing through Jesus Christ, the righteous or just One is the blessing of His favor with which we are shrouded and defended. This is the right and protection of the church. Whe. We were no people. Hus live found us. When we were His enemies, He called us his friends, and laud down God in life for us. His favor so surrounds us and defends us against ourselves (our flesh), our enemies, and all the implications of sin.
That is what it means when the Bible says that we are surrounded with favor as with a shield. Divine favor is always round about us like waistband. We cannot be stranded. While God punishes the wicked, He shows favor to the righteous. While He brings deserved punishment upon those without, He shows His favor to those of us who are called according to His glorious will.
God always throws His favor around us as a shield in the day of battle to protect us. Favor is God's protection around the righteous. It fits the description of a "shield" in Ephesians 6:16. Compare the notes at Psalm 3:3. On these accounts, David felt that he might trust in God in the day of trouble and danger; and, on the same account, all who are righteous may put their trust in him now.
Quote for the Day: “God favor sets aside human failures and hate. Even when rejection is written all over, you will gracefully be accepted. No one loves God and follows Him that is not surrounded with favor.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I pray for Your favor in my life, family and relationships, please strengthen my bonds, heal all divisions, and pour out Your divine blessings upon me. O Lord, please be my sun and shield. Bestow on me favor and honor; and no good thing will You withhold from me— in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
