Finding Strength

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, October 3, 2024

Today’s Text: Psalm 119:25-32

Key Verse: Psalm 119:28 (ESV): "My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!"

The writer of Hebrews admonishes us to "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Sometimes we feel weakened by situations and circumstances and need some encouragement and strength. The more we look around, the weaker we feel. But realizing that faithful men of old have gone through the same path, needing spiritual strength and encouragement, helps us to realize that our life's journey is never a solo endeavor. We are never alone. Others have gone through similar paths and have triumphed. Even Jesus, our ultimate example, endured the cross for the joy set before Him. Therefore, we're not meant to wander, quit, or slow down.

Looking at things, people, leaders, institutions, pastors, events and headlines will break our hearts and melt our spirits. But the essence of today’s, text is God wants us to realize that we are not to look outside of Him or in ourselves. We are not self-sufficient. We dare not trust in our abilities. Otherwise, our spirit will melt and succumb to the heat of things. God's strength is our supply. No matter your weakness; trusting God helps you counter it by God's power. The reason many Christians become discouraged is because we often neglect God's resources and trust our abilities, earnings and relationships. We are charged to seek strength from God's Word. The more we fix our eyes on Jesus, our perfect example, the more we draw from God's rich resources for the journey.

Action Steps: Reflect on areas where you're relying on self-effort. Today, intentionally seek God's strength and power in those areas.

Quote for the Day: "Don't travel your journey alone. Draw strength from God's Word and resources, and press on with perseverance and hope." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote).

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your strength and power. Help me rely on You, not myself. As I walk my life's journey, may Your Word be my guide and Your resources my sustenance — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
