God Gives Strength

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, July 19, 2023

Today’s Text: Isaiah 40:27-31

Key Verse: Isaiah 40:29 (ESV): “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.”

I remember running a cross country marathon in which I came second and my immediate junior brother finished first. Such race jolts us into a corner i which we all want to quit while we gasp for breath; but I remember how I kept striving on by the inspiration of this text. Our physical strength can avail in many things; but fail us when we need it most. However, confidence in God is the only thing that gives an overarching assurance of complete victory in the race of life. According to this scripture, the fitter, fleeter, and faster miss out so easily because they trust in human strength; but the weaker whose hope is in the Lord gets through without fail.

God has no weakling among His children. He gives us all His good strength and courage so that we have no reason to grope in weakness. Matter of fact, to be strong and of good courage are commands from the Lord, who also gives us His grace a long lasting, sufficient and manifold strength —so that the power of every David and Deborah; the strength of every Samson and Joshua; and the wisdom of every Lamuel and Solomon; and skills of every Bezaleel and Aholiab are all completely dependent on the strength of the Lord and not on their own natural abilities.

Quote for the Day: “There is always a fresh moment by moment supply of spiritual and supernatural strength and faith to those who have humble dependence on God.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord God of Heaven and Earth, please give me strength when I am weak, love when I feel forsaken, courage when I am afraid, wisdom when I feel foolish, comfort when I am alone, Hope when I’m in despair. Grant me, O God, the strength to persevere, the courage to stand firm in my convictions, and the hope to daily trust in Your unfailing love and grace— in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
