Today’s Text: Psalm 3:1-8

Key Verse: Psalm 3:3 (ESV): “But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”

Ministering in a western cosmopolitan society, I see a universal trend in today’s living realities. Many people are walking about with their heads hanging low, bowed down by the burdens they are carrying. Economic situation of the time and psychosocial stressors bash on people so hard that majority can no longer stick out their heads or walk in confidence. This affect everything they are, everywhere they go and all that they hope for. We see it in private, public and social arena; in worship meetings; at places of work; and in homes. Sometimes we see people in these situations; but sometimes, we are the culprit. No one is immune to burdens We all carry one form of burden or the other. But today’s scripture is a blessed reminder that in our desperate cry for God, in whatever our case may be, He comes through for us. He lifts our heads from shame and crowns us with glory.

It does not matter whether you have people or not; whether you have anywhere to turn or anyone to talk to or not. Even your circumstance may actually show no ray of hope in your own eyes; but God, who does not suffer the righteous to be moved, invites you to set your face like a flint with confidence that you shall not be put to shame. Therefore, in any way you are desperately looking up to heaven for lifting, or answers; whatever the case may be; you must not resign yourself to the challenges you are facing. It is never God’s will or plan for you to be put to shame, downcast or gazing downward. Gazing down fixate and limit you to obstacles, while gazing up shows you the bright and beautiful sunrise. That is what God does for you. He lifts up your head to see the horizon before you instead of the wreckages. He lifts your head to show you how large His plans are for you.

Quote for the Day: “Hope sets men at the shore of the Sea gazing up in joyful expectation of their help-ship. It’s never a sorry gaze down; but always an upward anticipation of God’s unfailing help.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am your humble servant, I come before you today in need of help when I fell helpless, strength when I feel weak, and hope when I see none. Lift up my head O Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
