Today's Text: 2 Corinthians 12:1-10

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV): "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

The text before us today is set in the context of Paul's second letter to the Corinthian church, where he discusses the importance of God's grace in his life. The apostle reminds the church that God's grace is sufficient for him, even in the midst of weakness and suffering. The importance of God's grace can never be overemphasized. As followers of Christ, we are called to recognize our weakness and dependence on God's grace. We are not self-sufficient, but rather, we are utterly dependent on God's mercy and kindness.

While reflecting on the concept of God's grace, Charles Spurgeon said that "the grace of God is the most wonderful thing in the world. It is the one thing that can make a man say, 'I am unworthy, but God is gracious.'" To him, God's grace is the foundation of our salvation, the source of our strength, and the guarantee of our eternal destiny. Billy Graham also illustrated grace with a personal story of his overspeeding ticket. He was driving through a small southern town in which he was stopped by a policeman and charged with speeding. Graham admitted his quilt, but was told by the officer that he would have to appear in court.

The judge asked, "Guilty, or not guilty?" When Graham pleaded guilty, the judge replied, "That'll be ten dollars -- a dollar for every mile you went over the limit." Suddenly the judge recognized the famous minister. "You have violated the law," he said. "The fine must be paid--but I am going to pay it for you." He took a ten dollar bill from his own wallet, attached it to the ticket, and then took Graham out and bought him a steak dinner! "That," said Billy Graham, "is how God treats repentant sinners!"

If you ever felt like you were not good enough or that you had failed too many times, remember that you are not alone. The apostle Paul, himself, struggled with weakness and failure, but he learned to rely on God's grace. In the midst of our weakness, we must remember that God's grace is sufficient for us. It is still powerful, still effective, and still changing lives.

Action Steps: Ask God for a deeper understanding of His grace. Focus on your weakness and dependence on God's mercy and kindness. Share the message of God's grace with others, that they may know the joy and freedom that comes from relying on His mercy. Surround yourself with supportive fellow believers who can encourage and strengthen you to grow in grace.

Quote for the Day: "God's grace is not a reward for the goodness on us, but His gift that brings about goodness in us." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today, asking for a deeper understanding of Your grace. Help me to recognize my weakness and dependence on Your mercy and kindness. Give me opportunities to share the message of Your grace with others, that they may know the joy and freedom that comes from relying on Your mercy. Surround me with supportive fellow believers who can encourage and strengthen me — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
