God’s “Let” Diary (Part 4)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, June 11, 2020

Today’s Text: Genesis 1:1-3

Key Verse: Genesis 1:3 (ESV): “And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”

Yesterday, we started looking at this scripture from its original Hebrew yehi ˈor, and Latin fiat lux. Today, we shall look at it in light of its ultimate fulfillment in Christ. John 1:4 gives the fullest and most true definition of the divine fiat — “Let there be light!” Jesus Christ is the beginning of creation. He was the manifest Light in the beginning according to John 1:1. When God said, “let there be light,” the depths of eternal life l, which is the light of men overcame the darkness in the beginning, and is still overcoming it today in those who trust Him. The beloved apostle says: “In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.” Knowing Jesus, and having faith in Him dispels the darkness of sin, breaks laws of death, and bestows eternal life.

This truth shapes itself more when Jesus, Himself, during the Feast of Tabernacles, said, “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Philosophers, religionists, animists and free thinkers all seek light; but there is no other light of the world than He who declares Himself as the Light. By that declaration, He is in every sense, and essence the very reality that the soul of man desires. Knowing Jesus is knowing the Source of illumination — the only Source! And in that sense all men must yield the divine command “let there be light” by allowing the light of to permeate their darkness and push back the stronghold of sin.

Quote for the Day: "Rejecting light is something worse than simply walking in darkness; it is an identification with everything that darkness represents.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, let Your Light shine in my darkness. Be my inspiration, my illumination and hope, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
