God’s Love in a Troubled World (Part 1)

Today’s Scripture Threshings for Tuesday, Wednesda, February 13 , 2019

Today’s Text: Matthew 4:18–22

Key Verse: ”Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.” (vs. 22, ESV)

While walking by the Sea of Galilee, Jesus recruited two brothers, Simon and Andrew into a most grand men fishing agenda. Immediately, they signed the contract of their lives and followed Jesus. Going from there, He met two other brothers, James and John, in their father (Zebedee)’s boat. They have had troubled times and business, and were therefore mending their nets. It was in the middle of such trouble that Jesus called them. Once again, like Simon and Andrew, they also immediately left their boat and father, and followed.

God is still in the business of raising men and women today, who will, put aside their own shortcomings and pain, forsake their limitations and vanity and join Him as veritable witnesses of His marvelous love to our troubled world. Yes, they may not be the finest or most refined men; they may be men with broken nets, or hearts, or lives. Like John and James, the only aspect of their lives that wasn’t broken was even too hard or hardened — they had such hardened temperament that itself is troubling, that they were called _boanerges_ from Galilean dialectal corruption of Hebrew words _bene reghesh_, meaning "sons of rage,” or as interpreted in Greek, "sons of thunder.” But God’s love is a so soft and strong softener, able and willing to melt anyone who submits to Jesus. Today, and throughout our series, God sets the searchlights of His love before us. Are we willing and ready, like Simon, Andrew, James and John to give up our little for His much.

Quote for the Day: “There’s no power on earth greater than God’s love: come broken and the love of God will mend you, hardened and it will melt you.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I am grateful that you are indeed powerful and loving. I ask you for the power of your love to fill my heart. I pray that you would strengthen my roots and establish my life firmly in your love. In your most precious name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayer,
