Grace and Truth from Jesus Christ

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, June 15, 2024

Today’s Text: John 1:6-18

Key Verse: John 1:17 (ESV): "For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."

The Law was a temporary measure that served as a bridge between God and humanity. Yes! It was never intended by God to be permanent. It was a temporary solution to show us our failure and need for God. Just as a cast is removed once a bone is healed, the Law was no more useful and is set aside at the appearance of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who introduces a new agreement between God and man. This relationship, based on grace and the truth of God's promises, forms the new covenant, and is built on relationship, not rules.

By the institution of the New Covenant, Christ frees us from the bandages of the old system of rules and regulations. And has now brought us under the grace and freedom established through His death. As such, the grace we have received from Jesus Christ is not just a concept, a feeling or an idea; it is a person. Indeed, Jesus Christ Himself is the embodiment of that grace, and through Him, we experience God's love and forgiveness.

In the same way, Jesus embodies and reveal God's character. He not only claims to be the truth, we have found that truth proceeds from Him. In Him, we do only see the character of truth, but we see a God who is loving, merciful, and kind. We experience a God who is for us, not against us.

The Law revealed our shortcomings and our need for a Savior. And only Jesus meets that need, providing salvation and redemption. So what this text is saying is that Jesus is the solution to man's problem. The Law reveals our flaws, which Jesus fixes. He provides the solution to our spiritual brokenness. We owe Him our life and gratitude for the gift of salvation and the truth that sets us free. This gratitude should fill our hearts and shape our lives.

Quote for the Day: "Eveeyone that experiences the saving frace of Christ Jesus, experiences God's love and grace in a more personal way." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the law that showed us our need for You. But most of all, thank You for sending Jesus, who brings us grace and truth. Help us to receive Your grace and walk in Your truth, through Jesus Christ our Lord — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
