Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, October 4, 2024
Today’s Text: 2 Peter 3:14-18
Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:18 (ESV): "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen."
What does it mean to grow in grace? It refers to maturing in one's faith and becoming more like Christ. It is the believers' journey of faith that involves learning and understanding what God did for you on the cross and how God continues to work in your life and world. It is following God's will and being vigilant against false doctrine. Iy is recognizing the free gifts of God in Christ that you have been given. Growing is grace alao involves breaking free of sin theiugh a daily walk wi5h God and constantly striving to break free from your sinful nature.
During my high school days, we learnt about characteristics of living things. The first sign that you're living is growing. The phrase "grow in grace" appears in our text today (2 Peter 3:18) to make it clear that God wants us to grow in our knowledge of Him as we learn and yield to His word as delivered through the apostles' teaching, through fellowship and prayer. The importance of spiritual growth and development in a Christian life can never be overemphasized. It is deepening our understanding and experience of God's love and mercy.
To experience this growth, we must continue to deepen our understanding of Jesus Christ and His words. This involves studying Scripture, learning from other believers through fellowship, and applying biblical principles. Do you pant with the desire to grow in the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is the center of our life and the source of grace, knowledge, and spiritual growth? Do you prioritize spiritual maturity through the study of God's word, prayer, and fellowship? How much do you seek to deepen your understanding of Jesus', His ways and character? Whatever you do with these questions will tell of your eternal consciousness and perspectives.
Action Steps: Set aside dedicated time for Bible study and reflection. Engage in regular prayer, seeking guidance and wisdom. Attend fellowship gatherings and worship services. Explore Christian books, podcasts, and online resources.
Quote for the Day: "God's plans for us are always bigger ours. As we grow in Him, He will take us from a level of glory to another." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote).
Prayer: Here's a prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You with grateful heart, seeking Your guidance and strength. Help me to trust Your plans, even when I can't see the path ahead. May the grace and knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ, grow in me daily, and deepen my understanding of Your love and mercy — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
