He Gives His Angels Charge

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, April 19, 2023

Today’s Text: Psalm 91:1-16

Key Verses: Psalm 91:11 (NIV): “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”

The reality, personality and ministries of angels have been subjects of speculations. But we can trust what the Bible says about these beings. The use of the terms angel or angels and their appearances have close to three hundred occurrences in both Testaments of the Bible. The New Testament alone has more than enough manifestations. It was angels that announced the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ, to Mary and Joseph; and announced the same to the shepherds. Angels ministered to Jesus in the wilderness after his forty-day fast; rolled the stone away from the mouth of the empty grave. It was angels that opened prison doors for the apostles. And many other examples of angelic activities in the New Testament.

In today’s text, we are blessed with very clear specific descriptions of why God gives these mysterious beings charge concerning you. We can look through it verse by verse and see just why they exist. We’d see why they are not to be worshipped or prayed to. We’d see how they have God’s charge over us to minister to us as God’s beloved children. Friends , angels are ministering spirits sent out to serve all of us who are inheritors of salvation (Hebrews 1:14). They are mighty ones who do his word and will (Psalm 103:20-21). So, no matter how colossal or tremendous their power is, all scriptural evidences reveal that they are servants given charge over us — sent forth to have charge of God’s people; to keep us in all our ways; to make sure we are unhurt; and to enforce our already given victorious power over all kinds of spiritual foes.

Quote for the Day: “Angels are heavenly creatures. Yes, but they are also those healing and helping corporeal hands that are sent by God to help us in desperate moments.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank You for Your powerful angelic soldiers who obey Your commands and keep me in all my ways. May I continue to enjoy the charge You give them over me. Let them continue to ascend and descend upon my Bethel. Send them O Lord to deliver me when I am in trouble — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
